Church of S.Domingos

Built at the end of the 14th century, it is all that remains of the mediaeval Dominican monastery, destroyed at the end of 19th century, apart from the splendid 14th century cloisters incorporated into the Martins Sarmento Archaeological Museum.
A baroque portico was added in 1770 and the chancel was enlarged around 1774. It has a Neo-classical style altar-piece dating from the end of the 18th century. The organ-case is the work of a local carver and has a sombre 18th century stall, marking the transition from Rococo to Neo-classical. It was granted to the Tertiaries of St.Dominic by Queen D.Maria II in 1851, becoming the parish church of S.Paio in the 20th century.
